I would have expected them to call Minnemann or Lang, they seem more fitted for that kinda work LOL

But anyways like Randy pointed out, Vinnie & Bozzio ABSOLUTELY without a doubt DESTROYED the Queen of the Damned CD. I still remember when I first heard that, I was doing sum transcribing with a fellow student who's into all that modern hard rock crap like Limp Biskit, actually the band isn't really that bad, it's much more advanced, Ill Nino or something, I took that CD and handed out to him and the guy couldn't stop laughing after hearing Vinnie's take and playing.)

I still doubt Vinnie can "hang" with the death/black metal guys when it comes to speed/stamina, guys like Derek Roddy, Pete Sandoval, Flo Mounier, Hellhammer etc. But we all know Vinnie's a better all-around drummer when it comes to the "big picture" if u know what I mean

Here's the thread I'm waiting for:

"Weckl gets Slayer Gig!"

Actually, I think Vin will OWN Megadeth's stuff without a doubt. As far as double bass speed, he's got it. When I was at PASIC '94, someone asked him a double bass question, and he did a halftime double bass groove at a RIDICULOUS speed, which I've really never heard him do since. I swear.......I wonder if Vinnie EVER plays to his own max level. Maybe he just feels (as some of you have implied before) that he's proven himself in that area, and doesn't have the need anymore. Oh well, that's ok.

Oh, and agreed on the hooded sweatshirt look...that's what he needs to do with 'Deth!!!

This should be VERY cool....his playing on "Queen..." was great.

Quick Pete Sandoval story:

I was at a local drum store one day and Pete came in with a rough mix of Morbid Angel's new disc. The guys in the store played it and it was what you would expect, but it sounded fine. It turns out they recorded the album at a studio I do sessions at, so I asked the producer about it and he said that they had to make loops and that almost all the drum tracks had to be fixed with ProTools because Pete couldn't play anything consistently with a click.... <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You are correct, Bozzio. There are some MONSTER speed/stamina players in the death/grind/thrash metal genre that would drop jaws here. (only from a technical standpoint) Doc from Vader is SCARY, but he couldn't play "Love is Stronger Than Justice" worth a crud.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Interesting about Pete. I've seen him live years ago, and he was able to carry the tunes just fine. Oh well......I guess the studio is another monster for him.

Met Sandoval years ago [80's] at a storage unit practice facility here in town, long b4 the band got "a deal"/notoriety...what used to freak me out about him was that they used to play all kinds of whack uptempo thrash time signatures & groove/feel changes, at high speed, going by you constantly...& none of em knew how to read a stitch of music...all memorized...hardcore thrash/speed-metal anthems, & some LONG ones at that, w lotsa shtuff goin on/flyin by...but the timing was a band "feel" thing, & not click oriented...but live it was impressive at the time...those guys meant what they said w their slammin; it could kick some monsta a** in that genre...but evidently, it looks like the click-monster kicked theirs...

Bob Jarzombek [Rob Halford; Spastic Ink] is a very good rock/speed/metal drummer AW, & more....

Scotty Travis is far better in the speed metal, he was in the Priest and later with Halford. Listen to PainKiller by the Priest, Travis kills the double bass.

Yeah, Randy...his drum solo on the Racer X Extreme Volume Live recording knocked me out when it came out [b4 he joined priest]...THE best dbl-kick/chopsy/licks rock solo at the time for a long time...almost put the hurt on NP AND Aldridge [AFA unbridled chops]...
I find Jarzo plays better within the tunes in the more progressive veign, tho...but both have excellent meter.
